Yes, Apple's competitors continue to rip off their ideas, but I give them credit for understanding it's not just about the devices, but the ecosystem in which they live.

But could Acer have made a shittier looking cloud? Jeez.

My name is J.T. Wang, and I sell junk.

John Paczkowski at AllThingsD reveals Acer CEO J.T. Wang has a plan:

"We will shift our strategy to improving profitability from pursuing market share blindly with cheap and unprofitable products," Wang told Dow Jones. "Ultrabooks will become our key growth driver next year as customers want a lighter, thinner notebook with longer battery life. Selling more ultrabooks will also help improve our profit margins as they command higher prices."

So you were (still are) shipping cheap, unprofitable products?

I'm proud of you, Wang. Acknowledging you have a problem is the first step on the road to recovery.

I still find this whole 'ultrabook' category hilarious. Once 'netbook' became a bad word, PC makers needed a new word for the (supposedly) new category, when in reality it only came into being when they realized the MacBook Air was a serious threat to their laptop businesses.

This whole process to stop shipping crap could have been started years ago, but it seems PC makers are only interested in improving the quality of their products after they've bottomed out and their back is up against a wall.

Did I mention I'm tired of writing about Apple?

iPad - Passing Fad

AppleInsider: Acer suffers first-ever quarterly loss, predicts iPad 'fever' will recede

Acer Chairman J.T. Wang chalked up his company's poor second-quarter performance as a "correction period," according to Reuters. His company has seen numerous struggles since the launch of Apple's iPad, which has cut into the sales of low-cost, low-power netbooks.

Wang reportedly added that he expects the "fever" for tablets to recede, and for consumers to regain interest in traditional style notebooks. Though he did not mention the iPad by name, Apple's touchscreen device has dominated the tablet market since it first went on sale in 2010.

Keep telling yourself that.

Reminds me of that Newsweek article from 1995 declaring the Internet a passing fad too.

Electronista: Acer stalls 7-inch tablet after realizing UI is too small

Acer's decision to delay the Iconia Tab A100 may have come from learning a hard lesson from Apple, sources hinted Wednesday. The tablet was moving from its June target to either August or September as Acer had discovered that Android 3, an OS designed primarily for 10-inch tablets, wasn't working properly on a seven-inch design. With many apps not working properly, Acer was waiting in the hopes Google will have solved the problems later, Digitimes heard.

As my father and John Gruber like to say, measure twice, cut once.
