Convenient

By Michael, February 2, 2012 10:39 AM

So Microsoft now thinks the Web is better without plug-ins (via CNet):

"Metro-style IE runs plug-in free to improve battery life as well as security, reliability, and privacy for consumers," said John Hrvatin, Internet Explorer program manager lead, in a blog post. "A plug-in free Web benefits consumers and developers and we all take part in the transition."

How convenient. I guess that whole push with Silverlight to de-throne Flash is over, eh?

For the record, I was wondering Silverlight's relevance way back in 2007.

Flash in the news

Verizon Wireless to Use Flash Technology - Flash can be used intelligently or stupidly ... lets hope Verizon goes with the former.

I've submitted a trouble ticket to Adobe Labs regarding the blurry text with the Flash 9 plug-in. I'm not sure what can be done now with people that have the possibly defective plug-in other than release a new build of it with a higher version number, i.e. - 9,0,21 ... thus prompting people with a pop-up to update their plug-in.

Yahoo! Flash Developer Center - looks like it could be a great little resource.

Text displaying fuzzy with Flash 9,0,16,0 plug-in

By Michael, October 20, 2006 10:37 AM

The Flash 9 player is not rendering the body copy on my site in the crisp, 'anti-alias for readability' setting. My site was published in Flash 8 so it could take advantage of this new text rendering feature. Before I upgraded to Flash 9, the Flash 8 plug-in was rendering my text perfectly. Now it was looking like this:

The left side of this image was viewed with Flash player 9,0,19 while the right side was viewed with Flash player 9,0,16. Uhhhh, what the hell......

Good Plugins for Movable Type

By Michael, July 27, 2006 9:54 AM

I've only been blogging for about a month now, and I'm trying to make a concerted effort to do at least an entry a day. Why? I feel like so much of my time is spent reading and interacting with other sites - I need to start moving the information in the other direction. I'm on the computer a lot as an interactive art director and like all jobs, the key to successful work is efficiency and they key to efficiency is having the right tools. So far, here are a few tools that make blogging easier for me:
  • EnhancedEntryEditing - this is a WYSIWYG editor letting you add formatting (bold, italic etc.) and URL's to blog entries. I don't understand why this functionality isn't built into MT
  • Sidebar Manager - a drag-n-drop interface that lets you switch up the order of sections in your sidebar
  • FormatList - select the text you want to make into a list - boom! done. (like this list)
  • BigPAPI - not really a utility, but it needs to be installed for Sidebar Manager and EnhancedEntryEditing to work on your server
  • Adding Flickr photos to your Blog - let's you, and anyone else you want, add a blog entry with a photo right from flickr. I love the integration available on the web these days. Hotness.
I know there's many more plugins out there and I'll be adding to this list in the coming months. If you have any recommended plugins not on this list, let me know or post a comment below.
