wallpapers

Photography doesn’t always have to be deep and conceptual.
Sometimes when I’m out shooting, I’m just looking at colors and textures.
Here’s a few abstract, deliberately unfocused shots I took that are making for great wallpapers.
UPDATE: I remembered the quote that belongs to the reasons behind these non-conceptual photos, from the movie High Fidelity:

I don’t wanna hear old sad bastard music, Barry, I just want something I can ignore.

click and drag ANYWHERE …I’m Hooked.

I found the website for interactive agency Hook a (surprising) joy to navigate.
Maybe it’s because I’ve been an iPhone user for 2 years and I’m used to everything being draggable, but it seems just as useful (if implemented correctly) on interfaces that aren’t multitouch, like my good old MacBook & mouse/WACOM tablet.

In the end this gets back to Fitt’s Law – Hook is effectively eliminating the distance you have to move to grab a scrollbar. Your scrollbar is everywhere.
So obvious, yet, I haven’t seen anyone else doing it.
Thanks Hook.

energy

In the bar I told Dean ‘Hell man, I know very well you didn’t come to me only to want to become a writer, and after all what do I really know about it except you’ve got to stick to it with the energy of a benny addict.’

Apple innovating within print?

If they hadn’t done it with the iPhone, I might consider this post far-fetched:

Steve Jobs said people don’t read any more. But Apple is talks with several media companies rooted in print, negotiating content for a “new device.” And they’re not just going for e-books and mags. They’re aiming to redefine print.

Exciting times we’re living in.

This past Sunday I hit Red Hook, Brooklyn with Bryan to shoot some photos. It was a success.
I used my 85mm lenses and Bryan shot with a super wide angle so it’s great to see how much our shots differ.
Check out my complete Red Hook set.

it’s what I do

Michael Mulvey, photo booth, 2009.jpg
I’ve been addicted to photo booths since college. They’re not as common as they used to be so I’ve been able to keep my addiction under control.
Then I met my wife, and found out she had the same addiction.
UPDATE: If you’re wondering, I took these shots last week in San Francisco at the Museé Mécanique.
